Alana Fichtelberg, M.A., CCC-SLP
Alana is a Speech and Language Therapist in the Broward and Palm Beach County area. She works privately with students from 12 months of age through adulthood with a wide range of communication difficulties. In particular, she concentrates on children diagnosed with apraxia, aphasia, autism spectrum disorders, and social learning challenges/comprehension difficulties.
Alana has worked in Speech and Language Therapy for over 25 years. She is trained in PROMPT® (Levels I and II) and Social Thinking® Level 1.
Speech and Language Therapy / Social Learning Groups
In Bend Your Brain Social Learning Groups, Alana uses Social Thinking® methodology with all her students – whether in groups or individually, when working on articulation or language. This includes much of the works of Michelle Garcia Winner (www.socialthinking.com), Leah Kuypers’s Zones of Regulation®, and Peter Vermeulen’s “Autism as Context Blindness”.
Presentations
Alana speaks to parent groups, professionals, and school districts (previously throughout New Jersey and now in Florida). Presentation topics include social learning challenges and practical suggestions, “Bend Your Brain” Social Learning Groups, and speech and language therapy / development.
At the 2014 Social Thinking® National Providers Conference in California, Alana presented “Bend your Brain Family and School Activities for Laughs, ILAUGH, and more.”
Background
Alana was in private practice full-time for the last 13 years in New Jersey. Then in September 2016, she moved to Florida where she continues to work privately with students/adults .
Alana was previously an adjunct professor/clinical supervisor at Montclair State University and Seton Hall University. She worked in the public schools for eight years, including schools specializing in children with autism. She received a grant from the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education, and was also the recipient of a large scholarship grant from a local autism group in New Jersey.
Alana has two entries in Michelle Garcia Winner’s 2012 book, Social Town Citizens Discover 82 New Unthinkables for Superflex to Outsmart!
